Volcanic rock raft floating towards Australia

Post by SheilaH » Thu Oct 10, 2019 2:31 am

No icebergs in the South Pacific but lookout for "pumicebergs" (new term I just invented ;) )
Great news for the coral though!

A huge raft of volcanic rock has been spotted in the Pacific Ocean, and the Manhattan-size mass appears to be drifting slowly toward Australia....All of the material is believed to have come from the eruption of an underwater volcano near the island nation of Tonga in early August.
We have since cleared all sign of volcanic rock and continuing to Fiji. Location of source of volcanic activity unknown. Please warn yachts sailing Vava'u to Fiji.
