SpectroNet Videos of Seismic Events

SpectroNet and the Spectro Watchers have captured and stored a large database of seismic and other events that were visible on the SpectroNet Live Seismic Monitor. Here are a few:

7.5 Papua New Guinea Earthquake 2/28/18

This powerful earthquake was picked up first by the PNG station on the stream, and propagated widely around the world. The USGS event page for this earthquake is here:

7.2 Mexico Earthquake 2/16/18

This big earthquake was picked up first by the central Mexico station on the stream, and propagated widely around the world. The USGS event page for this earthquake is here:

7.6 Honduras Earthquake 1/9/18

This big earthquake was picked up first at the Nicaragua station on the stream, and propagated widely around the world. The waveform and Spectrograph from a station about 200 km away in Grand Cayman is provided below. The USGS event page for this 7.6 earthquake is here:

7.3 Iraq/Iran Earthquake 11/12/17

This large earthquake was picked up first at the U.A.E. station, and propagated widely around the world. The waveform and Spectrograph from the closest available station about 413 km away is provided below. The USGS event page for this 7.3 earthquake is here:

4.3 and 5.3 Southern Idaho Earthquakes

A 4.3 foreshock followed by a 5.3 mainshock in Southern Idaho as seen on the SpectroNet Live Seismic Monitor. Propagation can be seen well  into Yellowstone. The USGS event page for the 5.3 is here:

6.3 North Korea Nuke Explosion

NK's latest nuclear explosion test as it came in on the Japan station on the upper leftmost panel of SpectroNet's Live Seismic Monitor. The USGS event page for this explosion is here:

7.7 Magnitude earthquake near the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia

Thanks to RF Burns for recording this video from our feed. This is the 7.7 earthquake as it came in on the SpectroNet Live Seismic Monitor on 7-17-2017. Note the tremendous S-waves that show up on most stations for long after the video ends...

Spectro Watchers were met with a big surprise when this earthquake occurred. Although it was captured at some distance from the epicenter, the seismic waves were powerful enough to propagate around the world. They can clearly be seen on most of the channels in the video.

8.1 Magnitude Mexico Earthquake 9-8-17

The Mexico 8.1 earthquake as it came into seismometers on the SpectroNet video feed, starting with the station in Guatemala. Thanks to Christian Sebening for recording this off our feed!
